We've
Been Asked...
Here are some of the questions we are frequently asked about the Audium
2.
__________________________________________
What level
of hearing loss can the Audium 2 correct?
Because
the Audium 2 is 20 times more powerful than a regular hearing aid
it is able to compensate for mild to the most severe hearing loss.
Users who could not be helped with regular hearing aids are able to
hear clearly with the Audium 2. It has even worked successfully with
persons with less than 2% of normal hearing.
Does it
work for both ears?
Yes.
The Audium 2 is true stereophonic two channel device. It has a separate
microphone and amplifier and equalization system for each ear.
Does it
fit into my ear?
No.
In order to provide all the features of the Audium 2 it has been housed
in a small case about the size of a business card. The unit may be
placed in your pocket or it can be clipped onto your belt. The main
unit connects to the ear pieces with a tiny nearly invisible wire.
How sensitive
is it?
Very
sensitive. You will be able to hear sounds at long distances just
as a person with normal hearing does. Audium 2 users frequently tell
us they are amazed at the range and depth of field that they can now
hear as well as the clarity. Customers who also have regular hearing
aids tell us that they don't begin to compare with the sensitivity
and overall performance of the Audium 2.
How is the
overall sound quality?
The
sound from the Audium 2 is a rich wide band stereophonic sound unlike
the narrow band of amplification obtained with a typical hearing aid.
Does the
Audium 2 cause a howling noise in my ear at higher volume settings?
No.
The Audium 2 is specifically designed so that it can be operated at
any volume level and NOT cause any squealing or howling noises that
are common with regular hearing aids.
What if
I have different hearing loss in each ear?
This
is a common situation so a user adjustable BALANCE control is provided
on the unit so that the sound can be proportioned between both ears
for a natural balanced sound.
Will I hear
a lot of background noise the Audium 2?
The
Audium 2 is a full two channel system that includes two separate microphones
and advanced noise canceling circuitry. The result is a unit with
very high sensitivity without a lot of the background noise typically
heard in regular hearing aids. Many customers who have used regular
hearing aids are startled by the high fidelity clarity free of noise
the Audium 2 provides.
What does
"user tunable" mean?
The
Audium 2 provides three user adjustable equalizers for each ear. These
allow the user to set how much gain is applied to each of three bands
of frequencies and tailor the sound to match the hearing loss independently
in each ear. Regular hearing aids must be taken in for service to
make this type of adjustment if it is even available. With the Audium
2 you make the adjustments yourself while you are listening to the
unit so you get exactly the performance you want.
What is
an equalizer?
An
equalizer is like a tone control on a stereo. It allows certain bands
of frequencies to be boosted or reduced in level. The Audium 2 has
three equalizers that are user adjustable for each ear. This allows
the user to adjust the sound to match the specific hearing loss in
each ear separately. This is a unique feature found only in the Audium
2.
Is It easy
to tune and adjust?
Yes.
It only takes a few minutes to adjust the unit to match your personal
hearing loss in each ear. A simple set of step by step instructions
makes tuning easy. Once you have set the unit to your needs you probably
will only change the settings once or twice a year to match any changes
in your hearing loss.
If the Audium
2 uses no batteries how does it operate?
The
Audium 2 uses a very advanced power cell that stores much more energy
than regular batteries. The power cell is sealed inside the unit.
It will operate your unit for about 30 to 36 hours before its charge
is depleted. It can then be quickly recharged with the supplied charger.
How many
times can the unit be recharged?
As
many times as you wish. There is no limit. Most users put their unit
on charge when they go to bed each night so its always "topped off"
by morning.
How long
does a charge last?
A
full charge will power the unit for 30 to 36 hours or more.
How long
does it take to recharge?
If
your unit is fully discharged it will take about 8 hours to reach
full charge. A 15 minute charge will operate the unit for 4 to 6 hours.
What is
the life of the power cell?
The
power cell is warranted for 5 years but our laboratory tests indicate
that it should last nearly 10 years.
What does
the telephone adapter do?
The
telephone adapter is a small box that you attach to your telephone.
The adapter does not interfere with normal telephone operation. When
you wish to make or receive a call simply plug the Audium 2 into the
telephone adapter and you will be able to hear the conversation clearly
through your Audium 2.
What is
the Audio cable for?
The
audio cable plugs into the accessory jack on your Audium 2 and then
into a TV, stereo, or radio for direct high fidelity listening.
What if
I need the unit serviced or repaired?
The
Audium 2 is warranted for 2 years from the date of purchase. During
this period it will be repaired or replaced free of charge by simply
sending it in to our service center. We will repair the unit within
three days and return it to you. If the warranty has expired you can
send the unit to our service center and it will be repaired within

Can I fix
the unit myself?
No.
The Audium 2 is a complex electronic device containing over 150 micro-electronic
parts. These have been assembled under a microscope and are only serviceable
with very special equipment.
Where is
the Audium 2 made?
The
Audium 2 is an American made product assembled by highly skilled men
and women in Georgia and South Carolina.
